We are The Moving General

One crew, every kind of move

Marcus Doyle opened The Moving General in 2014 after eight years running Army cargo logistics: a move should run on a plan, not a guess — so he built a crew that treats a New York moving day like a scheduled operation.

We run our own crew and trucks and quote one written flat rate you approve up front — fully licensed by New York State on every job, with US DOT and MC authority for the interstate runs.

The case for us

Why choose The Moving General

Run like a convoy, not a scramble — staged, briefed, and on schedule.

  1. 01 A written plan, not a guess You approve one written flat number before a box moves. The figure on the quote is the figure at the curb — no fuel surcharge, no surprise walk-up fee sprung on you mid-move.
  2. 02 An exact arrival window Sal tracks every truck live against the promised window, works the bridge and tunnel traffic into the schedule, and the crew shows up when we said they would — not a four-hour guess.
  3. 03 Fully licensed & insured Every New York City job runs under our state household-goods license and $1M cargo coverage, plus US DOT and MC authority for interstate runs.
  4. 04 Payroll crew, no subcontractors The movers who show up are W-2 employees we trained and the trucks are ours — never day labor rounded up that morning, never a broker handing your move to a stranger.
Start to finish

Four steps, no surprises

1

Tell us the job

Send us both ZIPs and a rundown of your rooms; we reply with one written flat rate, no walkthrough required.

2

Confirm the crew

Lock the date and we assign your crew and truck, and file any building COI in advance.

3

Wrap, load, roll out

Hallways padded, elevators reserved, a spotter posted at every doorway before the first box moves.

4

Unload & walk-through

Furniture set in place room by room, and the invoice matches the number you signed off on.

Comes with every job

Standard on every job

  • Every piece blanket-wrapped before it leaves the room
  • Hand trucks, straps, and floor runners at no charge
  • One flat number on paper before we touch a box
  • Payroll crew only — no day-labor rotation
  • $1M cargo coverage riding with the load
  • Furniture squared away at the new place, not left in boxes

Frequently asked questions

Is The Moving General a licensed and insured mover?
Yes. We are fully licensed by New York State for household-goods moves, and we hold US DOT and MC authority for interstate runs. Every local New York City job carries $1M in cargo coverage.
How do you calculate the flat rate?
Tell us your inventory, the building access at both ends (walk-up, freight elevator, doorman), and your dates. We calculate the real crew hours and truck time and email back one written flat rate you approve before we start. The number on the quote is the number at the curb.
Do you handle co-op and condo board paperwork?
Yes. Denise pre-clears the Certificate of Insurance most co-op and condo boards require and books the freight-elevator window before crew day, so you are not chasing building management the morning of your move.
Can you hold my things if my closing date slips?
Routinely. When a closing or lease date does not line up, we hold your load in clean, climate-controlled storage, billed month to month with nothing locked in.
Is a deposit required to book?
A flat $150 deposit holds your date and counts against the final invoice. We spell out the full flat rate in writing up front, so there is nothing vague and nothing sprung on you on moving day.
What's your full service area?
We cover New York and the whole the New York City metro — Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and the surrounding boroughs — plus long-distance runs to Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and beyond on our own federal authority.
